Today in Portugal we celebrate 40 years of democracy. The Carnation revolution happened this day, 40 years ago. For the ones that don't know, and I think every year I try to explain here what it was and its significance for us, it was a military coup that ended up with the dictatorial regime that existed in Portugal for 48 years. Importantly, not a single shot was fired and people came to the streets celebrating freedom. Carnations were put on military riffles and that's where the name for this revolution comes from. Two songs played in radio as signs for the coup: the first  Depois do Adeus (After Goodbye) from Paulo de Carvalho and Grandola Vila Morena from Zeca Afonso. I leave you with both:
