American elections 101

The election system here is the most ridiculous thing ever!!! It took 3 people and 15 minutes to explain how this shit works and in the end any of them (and they are all voting fellow americans) know all the details.
1. Let's put it straight there are NOT only two candidates, but I am sure you have only heard of  Romney and Obama...
2. Let's put it straight: even if more people vote for one candidate, he might still lose the elections
3. There are electoral colleges and the one that gets more electoral colleges gets the presidency. There are I think 538 electoral colleges, so 270 gives you the victory
4. Each state has a number of electoral colleges accordingly to its population.
5. Everyone votes but then each electoral college has one chosen elector that will say who the vote goes to. So what I have been explained is that this chosen elector is to insure that the vote is given by a qualified person, so this person is representative of the ones who voted so ethically should vote accordingly to the tendency but this is not mandatory, which means your vote might not count for anything. And my fellow colleagues had no idea who chose that person.
6. Each state has a certain number of electoral colleges but the rule the winner takes it all applies here. So imagine a certain state has 30 colleges, candidate A has 16 colleges while the other has 14, so applying the rule candidate A gets 30 colleges.
7. Because some states have more people, candidates focus on those states specially the ones in which the race is tight. So in the end only some states are important in these elections.

I am sorry but I have to say that in the end most people's vote is just ignored, and you call this elections? May the best candidate win and may the best be Obama =) So I leave you with a Chris Rock video
